Yeh IDeology is a recruiting firm specializing in design and strategy. Our client, a world-class manufacturer of home & residential products, is actively seeking to fill a lead designer position in Materials, Color, and Surface Decoration for their mid-west headquarters. Our ideal candidate would be a visionary leader with substantial management experience as well as a broad based knowledge of materials and color.  Must function above and beyond the normal role of a lead designer and have the insight and forethought to bring novel ideas to an already well-established and respected company.

BASIC FUNCTION

Develop and manage a world-class team that is visionary and sets new standards for material, color and surface decoration. Work in collaboration with manufacturing to innovate and surpass the status quo in terms of process, materials and ideas. Sustain our Industry leading position in Material, surface and color. Lead the creation of trends, strategies business and research strategies.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate with Program Manager to set goals and performance criteria. Conduct performance reviews and evaluations of your team. Set guidelines with respect to design skill, discipline and growth

Frequent collaboration with suppliers, consultants, and industry professionals.

Share in the vision of the Company. Align with the business leaders and the VP of Industrial Design regarding global development of surface decoration and color. 

Actively pursue and influence the strategic direction for all company product lines. Coordinate with manufacturing company wide to develop and grow regional products in the global marketplace. Develop annual and long-term vision for Surface, Materials, and Color.

Mentor, teach and elevate junior associates so that they maximize their creative potentials.

  • Develop and mentor Design Staff to be highly skilled in the disciplines of surface decoration, sculpture, and material and color advancement.
  • Conduct design reviews of new products
  • Instruct good decision making with company focus in mind
  • Stay up to date on best practices within the field of materials, surface and color
  • Be Aware of all new design procedures and manufacturing techniques that can elevate new opportunities for the category.
  • Recruit and hire design and technical support resources as appropriate to responsibility.
 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Masters Degree in Industrial Design and/or Fine Arts with emphasis in materials, decoration, and color development from an accredited university or other appropriate field i.e. Graphics, Ceramics, Furniture. Relevant Continuing Education; Masters in ID, Project Management, or Business. Must have experience proactively teaching less experienced designers in quality techniques and tools of design.
